What is the focus of internal communication for 2025?
Last week we hosted our Comms Reboot 2024 unconference in London and we are still buzzing!
More than 100 communications professionals came together for a day of learning and inspiration in London. Following an “unconference” format, the event is designed to allow delegates to choose the topics covered, and it provides a fascinating insight into what’s really on the minds of internal communicators in late 2024.
Attendees were asked to write down topics they’d like to chat about during the course of the day on individual Post-it notes, which were then hastily assembled by our team and divided into headline themes for different sessions.
In total, 20 sessions were held as well as a large group Ask us Anything session and this is what was discussed:
What are the most important things for communicators?
Because of the unconference format people attend the sessions that are most important to them. They can move around during the day as five sessions run at the same time, but this format means we can see which ones are the most popular. And this gives us an indication of the most important things for those working in internal communication, employee experience and employee engagement.
The most popular sessions were:
- Leadership communication – exploring how to help leaders be better communicators
- Strategic communication
- Change communication vs business as usual communication
- Employee experience, internal comms and employee engagement – discuss!
During the full group AMA session we got a bit deeper into the topic of AI and how it’s being used as well as what we can do collectively to help improve communication in organisations around the world.
Delegates travelled from across the world to be at the event and included representatives from a wide range of organisations, from large corporates like Sky and GSK to public sector organisations and individual consultants.
Rylee Dent, Senior Comms and Engagement Manager at The White Company, said: “There’s something quite special about how many of us showed up on a Saturday. It says a lot about the passion we all have for our industry – willing to give up part of our weekend to collaborate, contribute, and push each other forward. The energy in the room spoke for itself.”
Sara Kouchakji-Allen, a Senior Employee Communications Manager for HSBC UK, said: “I’ve come back with some great ideas from other organisations and sectors, new contacts and a renewed sense of community with IC pals from all over the place.”
We’d like to say a big thank you to all of our facilitators who helped keep things running so smoothly, plus the staff, etc, at venues in Fenchurch Place for the beautiful venue and delicious food and drink.
Huge thanks also to our sponsors: Harkness Kennett, Oak Engage, Gallagher, Work Networks, Contact Monkey, One O Six, Resource, Engage, Unily and Workvivo.
