Have we forgotten how to be in work relationships?

In this article for Forbes Business Council, Jenni Field shares three things you can do today if you’re starting to see symptoms of your teams not working well together and relationships suffering.

There’s been a lot of discussion about working from home. The benefit of less commuting time is one of the main reasons people prefer it, as well as being able to get so much more done, but it can come at a price. Humans are social animals and as such, we need connection. We’re not designed to build communities, work together, and trust each other through screens and technology.

The fact that we can love working from home and at the same time witness our working relationships deteriorate and not see a correlation between the two is a result of a growing focus on organisational processes over relationships.

“Empathy is a core pillar of relationship building—it enables us to connect, support each other and converse without judgment or wanting to win an argument. This isn’t always easy, and when we aren’t physically connected with each other, this can reduce our empathy levels.”
